Den nye enheten markedsføres som en "USB Stick" med utskiftbart XD-minne, men er strengt talt en vanlig kortleser for XD-formatet. Den lille størrelsen og etuiet gjør det midlertid enklere å frakte med seg kortleseren enn normalt.

MAUSB-100 støtter USB 2.0 formatet, så hastigheten vil begrenses av minnekortet.

The Olympus MAUSB-100 xD-Picture Card USB Stick.

Hamburg, 17 July 2003 – The go-anywhere solution for data storage, sharing and transportation is here. With the MAUSB-100, the first USB stick for xD-Picture Cards, Olympus introduces an ultra-compact storage device with removable memory that can be taken everywhere. Ensuring complete expandability and flexibility for the user, the MAUSB-100 accepts xD-Picture Cards of any capacity. And thanks to USB2.0 compatibility, transferring electronic files to and/or from a computer is not only easy due to USB AutoConnect (Storage Class) functionality – it is also exceedingly fast.

As part of the Olympus accessories system, the MAUSB-100 represents an ideal solution for high speed data transfer of image files from a camera’s xD-Picture Card to a computer or vice versa. But it is also suitable for virtually all other data transfer and transportation needs – no matter if music, documents, graphics files or a combination thereof. The handy device slots into any USB-equipped computer (PC or Mac, USB2.0 or 1.1). It is automatically identified as an external drive* and can be accessed like a customary folder using the computer’s usual file management system.

Users are not limited to a set amount of storage space either. Unlike regular USB sticks with built-in memory, the MAUSB-100 utilises removable xD-Picture Card media. This effectively enables unlimited storage capacity through use of multiple cards. xD-Picture Cards are currently available in 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512MB-sized versions.

Its ultra-compact dimensions mean that the MAUSB-100 can travel anywhere. A special cover protects it and the media from dust – and attached to a key ring it is always at hand for immediate deployment. To protect data against accidental deletion, the device also features a write-protect switch.

The Olympus MAUSB-100 xD-Picture Card USB stick is supplied with a USB cable and will be available as of September.
